Traditional Hawaiian massage Lomilomi

Lomilomi, the traditional Hawaiian massage (in Hawaiian, means Lomilomi massage), is an ancient form of massage practiced by Polynesian natives of Hawaii.
The techniques used in practice by traditional healers, are transmitted for generations. Lomilomi it's touch in the spirit of Aloha (respect and attention) that connects the body, heart and soul to the source of life.
History
Also known as massage temple or "Loving Hands" Lomilomi is one of the most deeply curative forms of massage. This sacred and unique form of massage has been passed through the generations by the Old Masters healers of Hawaii.
Like all ancient Hawaiian teachings, there are different lineages and teachers Lomilomi. Each will have a slightly different technique. None is better than the others, they are simply different, the important thing is the attention, intention and love given by practitioners. They must always be respectful and maintain the sovereignty of the massage following aptly culture and ancient teachings.
Principle
To understand the dimension and the healing abilities of massage Lomilomi, an understanding of the Hawaiian philosophy called Huna, and its links with the massage and healing, is useful.
A basic principle of Huna is that everyone seeks harmony and love. Lomilomi is the characteristic of the loving connection between the practitioner and client, hence the name "Loving Hands". While technology is an important part of the massage and associated healing, much of the work lies in the love and absolute attention that the practitioner to the client, giving the massage with her heart and her loving hands. This flow of energy, with the use of long continuous, fluid motion, combined with the very warm touch, relaxes the entire being and helps get rid of old beliefs, practices and behaviors that are the cause of many limitations and which are stored in the memory cell of our body.
Hawaiians see things in terms of energy flow, following the idea that an idea or belief can block energy flow as much as the tension of a muscle. Lomilomi helps release the blockages in the same time giving the energy new direction. Thus Lomilomi is not just a physical experience, it also facilitates healing mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Hawaiians see all these aspects of the body as one and believe that the physical, the mental, emotional and spiritual are all parts of the individual "whole" - when healing occurs at a level it has an impact on all levels. Rather than seeing the patient as someone to deal with, a practitioner Lomilomi considers each person as someone to help find harmony and balance. It is important to remember that the practitioner does not heal but promotes healing, creating an environment for healing to occur.
The consequence of a lack of harmony is physical pain, mental, emotional or spiritual. The disease is a state of tension leading to a resistance which blocks the movement of energy. Lomilomi helps to deliver and take the path of healing. At the physical level there are many advantages such as the release of tension and stress, improve blood and lymph circulation and elimination of waste and toxins.
Convenient
The Lomilomi practitioners mostly use forearms to massage. In Hawaii, treatment in spas often includes a steam bath and a massage with Hawaiian salt.
A Lomilomi usually starts with a quiet moment between the patient and the practitioner, the latter usually laying his hands gently on the client's back. During this time, the practitioner can quietly say a blessing or a prayer for healing, if necessary, intervene during the massage. The client can be prompted to ask what care he would receive. The masseuse then works very intuitively on the client. Thus, although the technique is important, there is no defined format or specific sequence for massage and two massages will never be the same.
There are a number of characteristics specific to the model and movements used to Lomilomi. In addition to the use of hands, massage is given smoothly and rhythmically with the forearm in large movements, to flat, to soothe tensions. This can be described as a feeling of gentle waves moving over the body. Another aspect of this massage is that different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time, such an arm or hand may be working on a shoulder and the other hand on hip. This helps the recipient to completely relax as it is very difficult for the brain to focus on two different areas simultaneously. The movements of the whole body, rather than working in isolated areas, promote the establishment of balance and harmony. Although the technique is important, the priority is loving the body, leaving a large part to the intuition for that massage is most appropriate to the person.
The movements on the whole body also help to release energy, they contribute to the relaxation of body, promoting free and abundant flow of vital energy in the body of the recipient. According to the Huna philosophy, energy can also be blocked in the joints. Light rotations of joints and stretching can therefore also be incorporated to facilitate the release of tension and the flow of energy, without forcing, but feeling the level of resistance or patient comfort. The masseuse may also at times gently sing or hum during Lomilomi massage because energy vibrant and amplified the resulting also facilitates the release of blockages.
As the practitioner works intuitively, a massage can be slow and relaxing or sometimes a little faster, more lively and invigorating for the body. An emotional issue can occur because the massage can release and move emotions or negative thoughts, hitherto retained in cells of the body, the healing effects of massage can last long after the massage. Lomilomi is not only therapeutic, but is loving, nurturing and whole.
The movements Hula (Hawaiian dance), combined with energy work and breathing practitioner are also important aspects inherent in Lomilomi. All are essential to the flow of energy in both the practitioner and recipient helping to keep energy high. The sharing of the breath, the Mana, the essence of the Creator or Universal Energy, is an ancient Hawaiian custom that also significantly improves the flow of energy.
Another aspect that distinguishes Lomilomi other forms of massage is that the person extends directly on the table and not on a napkin. In addition, rather than being completely covered with towels, the beneficiary is covered by a sarong leaving most of the body exposed to the massage, thus respecting the reservation of the recipient and the sanctity of massage. This allows long movements can be performed all over the body without interruption.
Traditionally a Lomilomi can be done either by a person or by two people working together. Having a "double" Lomilomi is an incredibly special experience.
When we think of Hawaii, the word "aloha" that usually comes to mind. We often think ALOHA just means hello or goodbye. Its meaning is however much deeper - "the joyful sharing of life energy in this." This is truly one of the Lomilomi secrets. Aunty Margaret Machado is one of the oldest and widely recognized faculty Lomilomi Lomilomi a definition of who is "the loving touch - a connection of heart, hands and soul with the source of all life". Students learn Lomilomi passing the love of the heart, by hand, to connect with the soul of the person receiving the massage. Healing is favored by love - love received and love given. A deeper meaning of love for the Hawaiians also includes tolerance, forgiveness, non-judgment, recognition, compassion, respect and so many other elements - this is the basis of a Lomilomi massage.
